Kirk Cameron's Origin of Species Redux
At first I was going to rip apart Kirk's hare-brained speech (Darwin thought up the big bang theory? Really?!?) but then I found that this young woman has done a much better job than I could ever have. That and her accent combined with her brain makes me harder than Chinese algebra. So enjoy, I know I will.

Paging Dave Chappelle
Remember Dave Chappelle's skit where he played a blind black man who hated black people and then divorced his wife after he found out he was black because she was a "nigger lover"?
Ever notice as soon as Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination every JC Watts wannabe was on every news station speaking out against him? All of a sudden African-American Republican strategists and spokesman were coming out of the wood work to show us that black people vote republican too. Some people call them Uncle Toms or house negroes... While that may be a little too much, after seeing guys like this talk so much trash about blacks (70% of them are full of murder?!?) I can't help but imagine this guy late night in the shower trying to scrub "the black" off his skin. If you think this is ridiculous mental imagery, then check out his rant about how black women should try marrying white men. In this speech he actually says that Barack Obama's father was "an in heat African" and had "been raised up in the jungles of Kenya" who hadn't "seen more than ten white people in his life" and that "they were all on television." It reminds me of a certain Boondocks episode I saw a few years back...
"African Americans have treated (Obama) better than they would treat Jesus if he were to return.
He's partially alledged to the African American people-Black people always
walk around with a chip on their shoulder - because they're Black - daring anybody to say anything to them.
Seventy percent of Black men are full of abandonment, full of murder, full of robbery and full of violence.
I'm not saying ALL Black men, just seventy percent of them."
--James David Manning

Boy in suitcase was cult victim, police say
Excerpted from CNN:
Yep, what need today is more of that ole timey religion...
A toddler whose remains were found inside a suitcase in Philadelphia in the spring was starved to death by members of a religious cult, including his mother, in part because he refused to say "amen" after meals, police said.
Ria Ramkissoon, the mother of Javon Thompson, was charged Sunday with first-degree murder in the boy's death. A Baltimore judge denied bail for the 21-year-old woman, who is accused accused of starving her toddler to death while a member of a cult.
Her lawyer, Steven Silverman, said she "was not in control of the situation" when her son died.
Ramkissoon and four others identified by police as members of a cult called 1 Mind Ministries are charged with first-degree murder in the death of Javon Thompson.
Members did not seek medical care for Javon when he stopped breathing, and the boy died in his mother's arms, according to court documents that described police interviews with a confidential informant and two children. He would have been about 19 months old when police say adults stopped feeding him in December 2006.
Yep, what need today is more of that ole timey religion...

Praying for health
Excerpted from The Economist:
Personally I think it stems from lack of education, but this is an interesting theory.
SOME people, notably Richard Dawkins, an evolutionary biologist at Oxford University, regard religion as a disease. It spreads, they suggest, like a virus, except that the “viruses” are similar to those infecting computers—bits of cultural software that take over the hardware of the brain and make it do irrational things.
Corey Fincher, of the University of New Mexico, has a different hypothesis for the origin of religious diversity. He thinks not that religions are like disease but that they are responses to disease—or, rather, to the threat of disease. If he is right, then people who believe that their religion protects them from harm may be correct, although the protection is of a different sort from the supernatural one they perceive.
Personally I think it stems from lack of education, but this is an interesting theory.
Quote Du Jour
I know this is old, but since I have decided to once again write Dr. Dobson on my other blog that it is once again relevant:
"The boy's father has to do his part. He needs to mirror and affirm his son's maleness. He can play rough-and-tumble games with his son, in ways that are decidedly different from the games he would play with a little girl. He can help his son learn to throw and catch a ball. He can teach him to pound a square wooden peg into a square hole in a pegboard. He can even take his son with him into the shower, where the boy cannot help but notice that Dad has a penis, just like his, only bigger."

Southern California Ford Dealership Radio Commercial Bashes Atheists
transcript of commercial from The UK Telegraph:
Seriously, and this is in California, a supposedly liberal state--my state.
"Did you know that there are people in this country who want prayer out of schools, "Under God" out of the Pledge, and "In God We Trust" to be taken off our money?
But did you know that 86 per cent of Americans say they believe in God? Since we all know that 86 out of every 100 of us are Christians, who believe in God, we at Kieffe & Sons Ford wonder why we don't tell the other 14 per cent to sit down and shut up.
I guess I just offended 14 per cent of the people who are listening to this message. Well, if that is the case then I say that's tough, this is America folks, it's called free speech.
None of us at Kieffe & Sons Ford is afraid to speak out. Kieffe & Sons Ford on Sierra Highway in Mojave and Rosamond, if we don't see you today, by the grace of God, we'll be here tomorrow."
Seriously, and this is in California, a supposedly liberal state--my state.

US National Academy of Sciences defends the teaching of evolution
Excerpted from The LA Times:
Creationism confuses students about what constitutes science, a report says, and it should not be taught. From ReutersWASHINGTON -- The U.S. National Academy of Sciences on Thursday issued a spirited defense of evolution as the bedrock principle of modern biology, arguing that it, not creationism, must be taught in public-school science classes.
January 4, 2008
The academy, which operates under a mandate from Congress to advise the government on science and technology matters, issued the report at a time when the theory of evolution, first offered in the 19th century, faces renewed attack by some religious conservatives.
The report says creationism, based on the explanation offered in the Bible, and the related idea of "intelligent design" are not science and, as such, should not be taught in science classrooms at public schools.

Bring back the Greek gods
Excerpted from The LA Times:
Prominent secular and atheist commentators have argued lately that religion "poisons" human life and causes endless violence and suffering. But the poison isn't religion; it's monotheism. The polytheistic Greeks didn't advocate killing those who worshiped different gods, and they did not pretend that their religion provided the right answers. Their religion made the ancient Greeks aware of their ignorance and weakness, letting them recognize multiple points of view. Continue article...

Richard Dawkins vs. Ted Haggard
Since I just posted a piece about a hypocritical preacher it is only natural that I am reminded of Ted Haggard and this exchange he had with Richard Dawkins in "The Root of All Evil?" Forutnately for Ted, he didn't die from his hypocracy.

Douche Bag Award of the Week
This weeks Douche Bag Award is special not only because it is the first of its kind, but also because it is being bestowed posthumously. This weeks prestigious award goes to the late Rev. Gary M. Aldridge who died from "accidental mechanical asphyxia." In other words he accidentally sufficated himself in an attempt to get off. But the true beauty of this story lies in its heavy doses of irony. For starters he is a pastor who worked for another formerly deceased bigshot of the religious right.Excerpted from WSFA TV Mongomery, Alabama:
Gary Aldridge graduated from Liberty University and later worked for the late Jerry Falwell. A former colleague at the school remembered him as well.It is too bad Mr. Campbell doesn't bother asking 'why' because the irony is absolutley delicious. In a state that has gone through the trouble of drawing up legislation to prohibit the sales of sex toys it is only fitting that one of its pastors is found dead with two wetsuits on, rubber underwear, a diving mask, and wait for it... a dildo with a condom on it lodged up his ass. I would make a joke here but it wouldn't be nearly as funny as the plain facts of the matter. So congradulations Gary Aldridge, you are a
"He went on to become one of the deans and the students loved him. He had a tremendous impact on them," said Dr. Bob Miller of Liberty University.
As investigators try to figure out what happened, Steve Campbell says this is by far the hardest thing he's ever had to go through yet despite the loss of a close, personal friend, Steve Campbell says he won't even bother asking 'why.'

Sheri Shepherd Doesn't Know if the World is Round or Flat
Oh my Flying Spaghetti Monster!!! I can't believe that this women doesn't even know whether or not the Earth is round. Notice how she is so untrusting of science yet she knows that certain parts of the Bible are set in stone and absolutely true. This is what happens when faith is exhalted over reason... ignorance rules.

God Hates the World
http://view.break.com/278059 - Watch more free videos
"You'll eat your kids..." You got to love these fucknuts, this is the end of the road that the fundamentalist constructs. The most disturbing part is the child at the end singing this hateful parody of "We are the World." If you think stupid superstitious beliefs are harmless, think again. This ugliness is passed down generation to generation... a condition the Bible refers to as "iniquity." If there is a God, and he is spiteful and shallow as these pieces of shit, I will gladly take my chances in Hell.

Jerry Falwell Dies!!!
This last Tuesday Nash called me up with the best news I have heard the advent of sliced bread. It turns out that sychophant Jerry Falwell died of heart failure and his carcuss was found on the floor of his office. Good riddance to bad rubbish. Of course all the talking heads from Fox News are trying to make this bigoted charlatin out to be a saint but those of us who keep tabs know better.
Chistopher Hitchens is an outspoken atheist, whom I don't really care for because of his support for George W. Bush's invasion of Iraq, but in light of his spade calling of Falwell's character, he is starting to grow on me.
Note how Hitchens points out how Ralph Reed is neck deep in the Abrammoff scandal.
"If you gave Falwell an enema, he'd be buried in a matchbox" Classic.
And just in case you are not familiar with the works of this scumbag, here is an audio quote of Falwell blaming the September 11th attacks on homosexuals, feminists, and the ACLU.
Fuck you Jerry, I just wish there was an actual Hell for you to burn for eternity in. I guess I will just have to be thankful that you are dead instead.

Richard Dawkins' response to a Liberty University red herring on Quantum Theory vs. Religion
The poster of the Youtube video is a fundie and flips the question of not being able to prove the existence of God on the reader themselves. Of course, I had to respond:
Fundamentalist Jack Off: Essentially what he's saying in this video is, in a complicated manner, "you can't prove that god exists".
I'd like to pose this question as an intellectual challenge - Prove that you exist. Prove someone else exists in the same fashion.
Mildly Brilliant:I responded to your post, that is proof I exist. If you wish me to prove you exist, show up on my doorstep and I will bitchslap you; the pain you experience will be an affirmation of life. Now let's see how long it takes God to respond to this post. Oops... there goes that argument.
It is amazing how easy it is to cut through mental masturbation in just three senstences... Then again, the argument is that God exists outside of time so He probably get really confused when reading blogs and this might take a while. [/sarcasm]

George Carlin: The Ten Commandments
Ah the comedians... The modern day prophets for common sense. What surreal times we live in. My only problem with Carlin's speech is his reason for there being ten commandments, which seems obvious to me... Ten commandments; ten fingers.
Duh.
