Excerpted from The Navy Times.
“There are no sidelines anymore,” Vice Adm. John Harvey, the Navy’s chief of personnel, told Navy Times in a Feb. 3 interview. “If you’re wearing this uniform, you are on the front line of service.”
The PRT sailors will join the 300 sailors already on the ground in Afghanistan, mostly individual augmentees and Fleet Marine Force sailors. The 4,000 sailors on the ground in Iraq today is expected to rise to 5,000 by the end of the year, part of the 11,000 ashore and 11,000 afloat in the Central Command area today.
This is a disturbing precedent. This is but one more sign that our military is stretched too thin if we are having sailors do ground work. How long will it be before mandatory service is required by all able bodied Americans for this bullshit war on Terror?
